For my first real post, I thought I’d share about my first dog- Tinker Bell Momo. Yes, we did give our dogs middle names. To backtrack from my first sentence (yes, really), it’s not completely accurate. When I was born, my parents had a miniature dachshund named Scooter. While I do remember a bit of her, she was not particularly friendly once I came along, and we gave her to another family when I was just 6 due to her giving my youngest sister allergy problems. As I don’t have any great memories with Scooter, and I was so young, I consider Tink to be my first dog.

For years, my sisters and I wanted to have a dog that we could call our own. We would ask every now and then, always expecting the same answer, which we so intelligently had figured out would be a confident “no.” However, some friends of ours at the time had an adorable Pomchi (Pomeranian + Chihuahua) named Dory and a full Chihuahua named Chachi. They ended up having three puppies, and not wanting to keep them, our friends offered to let us come meet the puppies.

The first time we went, only my two sisters, my mom, and I went. Though all three puppies were cute, and my youngest sister actually favored one of the brothers, one of them stood out to the rest of us- Flo, who SPOILER ALERT, ended up being renamed by us to Tink. She was absolutely tiny, black with tan markings and just precious.Though we all knew that the answer in the past regarding getting a dog had always been no, we had a feeling that once our dad met Tink, that answer just might change this time. After a couple of days and lots of not-so-subtle hinting on the kids’ end (including a drawing by my sister with the words “I love Flo” written beneath it on her white board), my dad came with us to meet Tink.

After that, it was a done deal. He fell in love with her, and her with him completely. In fact, to this day, Daddy is by far Tink’s favorite out of the 5 of us at home. What a whirlwind the next 48 hours were. She came to love sleeping by feet at night, and those were truly some of the sweetest moments I can remember. We were (are) all totally obsessed with this tiny dog! Since puppyhood, her attitude has truly flourished to reflect her spunky namesake (Tinker Bell the fairy). Tink tends to favor men over women, although she does love our grandmomma and my best friend, Madison.  She is as salty as they come, getting mad when people she loves leave the house and barking ferociously at anyone who moves even a bit too quickly. However, she loves to lick my dad awake, and the rest of us will still occasionally get a bit of snuggle time with her. The best quote to describe her is definitely Shakespeare’s “And though she be but little, she is fierce.”
